To have reliable traffic information available to reduce congestion in the town

Sète is a French town on the French Riviera. Its unusual location and geographical distribution means it is communicated at various points by bridges that cross its canals and which are the main arteries for entering the town.

The local authority wanted a solution that would provide real-time information on urban traffic conditions in order to manage and prevent the sort of congestion produced on the main roads of the town particularly during the tourist season.

The aim of the project that we developed for Citelum in Sète was to monitor urban traffic at strategic points in the town that would help implement action plans to reduce congestion on the roads through affordable installation and maintenance.

Our proposal involved the installation of wireless sensors on the road to provide reliable real-time information on traffic conditions.

30 traffic sensors

The project consisted of the deployment of 30 U-Flow sensors at strategic points in the town of Sète. The sensors provide real-time information on how busy the roads are and volume of vehicles to determine congestion levels. They detect up to 60,000 vehicles a day with a counting reliability of more than 99% and vehicle classification reliability of over 95%.

Traffic management in the town

Monitoring local traffic at strategic points in the town allows Sète to develop traffic management strategies, generate alarms in critical situations and therefore improve mobility in the town.

Information for users

The data captured is transformed into valuable information that will be sent in real time to citizens by means of signalling applications and panels so that they are aware of traffic conditions and can decide on the best way to get to and move around the town.

Economic efficiency. Simple autonomy and maintenance

The installations was quick, simple and with hardly any building work necessary, resulting in major savings compared to other urban traffic monitoring solutions. No maintenance is needed thanks to the autonomy of the sensors.

In the project developed in Sète, we based our proposal on solutions that meet both the needs of administrations and citizens.

We developed an end-to-end system that provides a complete service:
