Project description

Reduce vehicle congestion in the car park

Shopping City Süd (SCS) is the shopping centre with the largest outdoor car park in Austria and among the largest in Europe with a surface area of 225,860 m2, more than 330 shops and 10,000 parking spaces.

With an influx of more than 23 million people, visitors constantly had to deal with tremendous vehicle congestion in the parking area. This meant that they would waste a lot of time looking for a parking space and become more stressed, affecting their willingness to shop. This affected satisfaction in general and they ended up looking for better and quicker parking alternatives.

SCS needed to resolve the situation urgently which was causing a decline in the influx of visitors to the Shopping Centre and harming the results of the points of sale.

Improve accessibility and parking

Through the guided outdoor parking project for the Shopping Centre developed for SCS with our partners, it was possible to optimise the management of the parking area by improving accessibility and parking for its customers.

3,500 spaces

Sensors were deployed in 3,500 parking spaces and at some entrances and exits of the parking area. All together provides information on parking occupancy and availability. Then, the data is transformed into useful information which guides customers directly to the free spaces by means of the more than 100 information panels installed.

This information optimises the management of the car park and helps the Shopping Centre to define restructuring and improvement plans of the parking area based on the statistics and mobility reports provided.

Significant time-saving

Parking in SCS is now much quicker. Thanks to the improvements introduced, congestion has disappeared and the traffic flow in the parking area is faster. Customers do not waste time looking for a parking space and have more time to shop, which they do in a more relaxed and satisfied fashion.

Increased visits

The improved user experience increased the visitor flow and, as a result, the turnover of the points of sale and revenue of the Shopping Centre too.

End-to-end service

In the smart city project developed in Shopping Centre Süd, we based our proposal on solutions that meet both the needs of parking manager, visitors and clients.

We developed an end-to-end system that provides a complete service:

  1. Sensing System
  2. Data transmission elements
  3. Software management platform
