Urbiotica launches the new U-Spot M2M parking sensor and its Traffic solution during the 2019 edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress

“Cities made of dreams” is the slogan of the 2019 edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress, held in Barcelona.  The most urgent issues to be faced during this edition are digital transformation, urban environment, mobility, governance and finance as well as inclusive and shared cities. Urbiotica has supported the event since its first edition, with the aim at contributing to the incessant struggle to improve how cities are managed and turn them into more efficient, smart and sustainable places to live.

We will have a greater presence at the Fair this year to be able to present all the developments of our parking, traffic, and noise monitoring solutions. We will take advantage of the SCEWC to explain in detail two strategic launches designed to improve the mobility of cities, and which will also have a very special promotion these days::

  • New U-Spot M2M release. The new parking sensor communicates directly with the platform without the need of a Gateway, greatly simplifying the deployment of the projects. The system completes Urbiotica’s range of parking solutions for the control of regulated parking and urban guidance.

The new sensor works with the same reliability as U-Spot 2.0 and has up to a 10-year lifetime. The product is already impacting the market with over 2000 sensors planned to be installed next semester in 3 Smart City projects in Spain.

During the Smart City Expo and to celebrate the new sensor launch, visitors may aim at getting one of the starter kits of the system that Urbiotica will deliver during the days of the Fair.

  • Launch of the Traffic solution for urban and interurban monitoring. The system is based on the U-Flow traffic sensor, Urbiotica’s magnetic and wireless counting sensor, which allows cities and road infrastructure managers to achieve sustainable mobility through the analysis of continuous and reliable real-time data, such as:

o   Vehicle volume and traffic density

o   Classification by speed and size

o   The time between vehicles and road occupancy.

Among other benefits, this solution stands out for its low installation and maintenance cost, total respect for the privacy of drivers and its ability to integrate with third-party systems, either from Urbiotica’s cloud or directly from the gateway

We hope to show you these and many other developments if you visit us at Hall 2 – Booth A150. Come around or set up a meeting in advance at: info@urbiotica.com

Urbiotica will deploy more than 2.000 U-Spot M2M sensors in the next 6 months

Urbiotica announced its new U-SPOT M2M parking sensor release during the past Intertraffic edition. As a result, the company today reports that more than 2.000 units of the new single space detection M2M sensor are prepared to be installed in 3 spanish cities by the end of the 1st quarter of 2020.

Making the most of the new 3GPP NB-IoT standard, U-Spot M2M communicates to the U-Admin platform directly through the mobile telecom network thanks to a SIM card integrated in the sensor. As there is no need to deploy any additional communication infrastructure, the cost of the solution has been drastically reduced for scattered spots applications and countries where the city lighting and electrical infrastructure cannot be used to support the deployment of dedicated IoT gateways.

As simple as U-Spot M2M

Thanks to a great improvement of energy harvesting performed on the new sensor, it is able to reach a 10-year useful lifetime under normal usage conditions and standard mobile network coverage quality. In addition, the U-Spot algorithm has been worked out to ensure a 98% detection reliability during the entire sensor lifetime, while minimizing the associated communication costs.

On the other hand, Urbiotica settled agreements with two main telecom operators to provide customers with a full end-2-end solution, including connectivity for a first pack of 7 European countries. The undergoing roaming agreements between operators for NB-IoT protocol shall soon expand the area of influence of the system.

The 1st massive deployment planned will take place in Utrera city  (Sevilla, Spain), involving 700 U-Spot M2M sensors in the city center. aThe project, integrated by Telefonica, aims to ease the search of free parking spots in the area through a free mobile APP proposed to the citizens.

Castellón (Valencia, Spain) and Murcia (Spain) will also be equipped with the new sensor during the first quarter of 2020, to benefit of a complete technological solution to control the use of reserved parking spots for people with reduced mobility, loading and unloading as well as electric vehicle use.

Alcalá de Henares has a new guided car park with U-Flow Parking counting system

The City Council of Alcalá de Henares, a city located to the northwest of Madrid, is committed to the improvement of the city’s neighborhoods and citizen wellbeing. To this end, the council launched a macro-project to remodel the old football field in the area of Juan de Austria and thus turn it into a quality space for leisure and personal relationship.

Part of the project process involved citizen participation, obtaining more than 200 proposals. Among the most prominent proposals was the improvement of parking spaces due to the fact that Alcalá de Henares is located in a dense urban fabric and faces a global lack of parking spaces. Urbiotica’s technology was selected as a solution to takle this problem.

Urbiotica’s solution meant the deployment of the U-Flow Parking system, to count the vehicles that enter and leave the area in order to determine and communicate the users in real time accurate information related to the occupancy level of the 100 spaces. The information is published through 2 VMS located on nearby streets, allowing drivers to quickly decide where to park in the area, avoiding vehicle chaos and stress to users during the process.

As a result of the whole project, a large park has been achieved, accessible also to people with reduced mobility, surrounded by nice paths for walking, activity areas for all sectors of the population and an area with a greater density of trees. There is also a parking area which, thanks to Urbiotica’s solution, has been satisfactorily optimized to create an efficient and tidy space.

Interview with Sergio Castellar (Pavapark)

Sergio Castellar from Pavapark gave us an interview in which he talked about his experience working with Urbiotica.

Pavapark is a Valencian Company specialized in urban mobility, part of the PAVASAL Group, which has been active for 75 years. Pavapark is a leader in urban mobility management, Smart City solutions and in the integration of people with difficult access to the labor market.

Sergio, can you explain how you got to know Urbiotica?

It all began with a project we had in Calpe (Alicante). We wanted to implement technology to get occupancy information and test the single space sensing systems. In order to do so, we carried out a market research. We finally selected Urbiotica because it had the most mature solution and because it was the one that best suited the problems we had in Calpe. In this way, we sensed 34 regulated parking spaces located in Alemania Street and installed a Variable Message Sign to identify the available spaces.

Why did you choose to work with Urbiotica’s technology instead of others?

We analyzed other options such as solutions using loops or cameras. Pavapark always looks for the best technology according to the client needs and in this sense, single space sensor detection was the solution that best adapted to the installation. We looked over other projects implemented by Urbiotica in some municipalities, which conveyed us confidence, and so we chose to work with Urbiotica. The other systems didn’t fit in the conditions and needs required for this project. We see that other types of systems are not mature enough yet.

Tell us about the last project you carried out in cooperation with Urbiotica in Alzira (Valencia). You installed a sum of 70 U-Spot sensors in 2 phases to collect information about the occupation and be able to transmit it through VMS.

Indeed, we installed 70 sensors on Santos Patronos Street, a commercial and central street in which there is a lot of vehicle rotation. The City Council needed to have information about the use made of the spaces. The system is located in a regulated parking area and therefore helps us to know the rotations and productivity of those spaces. It allows us to know how long a vehicle has been parked and when it exceeds the time limit, which in this case is 2 hours. We have placed 2 VMS that give real time information concerning the number of free spaces allowing drivers to decide to look for another option to park their vehicles if there are few spaces available.

Moviltik is an App using the data collected by the system. How did the integration work?

It’s a regulated parking area. We use this application for parking payment management. With the new system integrated in the application, now through Moviltik app we also inform users of the number of available spaces. We access via API and collect the data from the system to notify the user through this App.

As for the installation, we connected the concentrators to the electrical network of the municipality street lamps. The deployment of the sensors was very simple. Everything is working very well.

Are you satisfied with Urbiotica’s parking solutions?

We are very satisfied with the solution. On one side, we would like to point out that the delivery and supply of all the material is very fast because it is a proved and tested solution that works well. On the other side, the installation is not complex and the civil work that needs to be done is relatively simple. And above all, it is very important for us that when we have had an urgency in times of implementation, Urbiotica has responded according to our needs and the technical support is immediate. The availability of Urbiotica technicians is total.

Regarding the relationship, attention and follow-up of the project. How did you feel working with Urbiotica?

We’re delighted. Both technically and commercially. The response on your side has always been immediate. You have always attended us, and we have been able to resolve any incident quickly.

Can you tell us about the improvements or benefits of this system for the citizen as well as for the parking manager?

Facilitating parking in this downtown area leads to a decrease in congestion. In the same way, this reduces the stress of the citizen when looking for parking, making this procedure easy and fast. In addition, the commerce and services are revitalized because the citizens move more to the city center than before.

The overall system also has a clear benefit for the parking manager as he can see that there is more rotation and that vehicles are no longer left parked indefinitely. The team is provided with the necessary information to make predictions and design actions and mobility policies based on real data and thus ensure that there is a more rigorous vigilance of the area and that it is more efficient.

And what can you tell us about the final client, the Alzira City Council? Are they satisfied with the solution implemented?

Alzira City Council was delighted with the implementation period we carried out and they are satisfied with the service because they see that it is having a return and that citizens see it as an advantage.

The city of Alzira advances with its new project towards a Smart City model with Urbiotica’s technology

Alzira is a town in full growth and continuous change.  The city council decided to launch a project to improve parking management which contemplates the deployment of Urbiotica’s solution to achieve efficient, smart and safe mobility.

Pavapark is the company that leads the project and selected Urbiotica’s technology as the best one to approach Alzira’s circumstances. Pavapark is a leading company in urban mobility management, Smart City solutions, as well as in the integration of people with difficult access to the labor market. The company, based in Valencia, is committed to innovative mobility solutions that adapt to people’s needs.

This deployment aims to ease mobility in the city center by improving the parking management in order to increase user satisfaction, boost the local commerce and at the same time reduce the pollution generated by an excess of vehicles driving in search of a parking space.

“We analyzed other options such as solutions using loops or cameras. Pavapark always looks for the best technology according to the client needs and in this sense, single space sensor detection was the solution that best adapted to the installation. We looked over other projects implemented by Urbiotica in some municipalities, which conveyed us confidence, and so we chose to work with Urbiotica. The other systems didn’t fit in the conditions and needs required for this project.”

Sergio Castellar of Pavapark

– Sergio Castellar – Systems Manager of Pavapark

The smart parking solution was installed in a central commercial street, Avenida Santos Patronos, where there is a regulated parking area. Urbiotica provided a total of 70 U-Spot sensors. This system captures the data and transmits in real time the availability of free spaces to users through U-Display variable message signs located at each end of the avenue.

Variable Message Sign in Alzira

According to Sergio Castellar: “The system is located in a regulated parking area and therefore helps us to know the rotations and productivity of those spaces. It allows us to know how long a vehicle has been parked and when it exceeds the time limit, which in this case is 2 hours.”

Urbiotica’s system will be integrated into Pavapark’s Moviltik App, which is used to manage the parking payment. The system is accessed via API in order to incorporate the collected data and transmit information concerning the parking availability in the area through the app.

The Urbiotica solution implemented in Alzira is a win-win-win. Improved mobility clearly benefits citizens, who can park faster, easier and without stress. They are more likely to move to the city center if they can use and park their vehicle easily. Local commerce is revitalized. The parking operator, by improving the vehicle rotation, optimizes the exploitation of the regulated zone and obtains information in real time that allows him to make predictions and design actions and mobility policies based on real data. On the other hand, the City Council is satisfied with the improvements in the city, which is now more modern, technological and healthy for everyone. A Smart City that satisfies everyone.

“We are really happy with the solution. On one side, we would like to point out that the delivery and supply of all the material is very fast because it is a proved and tested solution that works well. On the other side, the installation is not complex and the civil work that needs to be done is relatively simple. And above all, it is very important for us that when we have had urgency in times of implementation, Urbiotica has responded according to our needs and the technical support is immediate. Rek Parking launches a project based on the sensorization of more than 700 spaces in Bento, Brazil

Rek Parking, Bento’s regulated parking operator, relies once again on Urbiotica’s smart parking solutions to enhance the service offered to the city. The project, currently in an initial pilot phase, will require more than 700 U-Spot parking sensors to be implemented in the city center to improve mobility while optimizing the management of the regulated parking area.

Bento’s mobility project began in early May on Rua Barão do Rio Branco and will be extended to other parking areas to provide citizens with real-time information about free spaces, retrievable for the users through the new Rek Parking application Rek Pay. Available for both Android and iOS, the APP will also allow payment for parking.  This will make it much easier for the citizens to park in the central parking area, thus reduce search time, traffic and consequently the pollution generated by vehicle congestion.

Application to know the available places and to pay the parking.

On the other hand, the system will allow an optimization of the management of the regulated parking area. Thanks to this solution the regulated zone staff will be informed when a parked vehicle has exceeded the time limit, which in this case is a maximum of 2 hours. It will avoid cars parked indefinitely, favoring the rotation of vehicles, as well as efficiency in the use, management and results of the regulated area.

This project, the fourth deployed with Urbiotica technology in Brazil, adds Bento to the cities implementing an urban mobility improvement plan, which is currently one of the main concerns and focuses of action in the country. This Smart City project also means clear progress and modernization for the city.

Interview with Roberto García (Dinycon Sistemas)

Urbiotica had the pleasure to interview the CEO of Dinycon Sistemas. He gave us all the details about his experience deploying our parking solutions for their projects.

Dinycon is an engineering company with extensive experience integrating mobility solutions for people and vehicles.

Roberto, how did you get to know Urbiotica?

We came to Urbiotica because the market was demanding technological solutions and logically we valued the existing solutions and those that best suited that demand. In this path of research, we began to have the first conversations, then some first projects, and from there on we began to work with you. To date, there are already 3 or 4 projects of a certain magnitude deployed with your technology.

Have you had experience with other similar systems? Why did you choose to work with Urbiotica’s technology instead of others?

We have tested other systems based on image analysis technologies, but they were not as mature as Urbiotica’s solution. We have also examined wired solutions, by means of conduits and with the same aim, but we had some problems with the civil works, the maintenance and the precision of the system. This is why we finally chose Urbiotica’s solution. It is much easier to deploy thanks to its autonomous sensors, which have a useful life of many years. We have already worked with the Urbiotica system for several projects and it has proved to be reliable and work very well.

Variable Message Sign and citizens of Aranda de Duero.

Tell us about the latest project recently deployed in Aranda de Duero. You installed 272 U-Spot sensors to capture occupation information and transmit it through digital panels to drivers, thus improving mobility and user satisfaction. Could you give us feedback on the Urbiotica system installed there?

The system deployed has been the largest we’ve done so far. A major logistical planning had to be done with EYSA, the operator of the regulated area. In this case, all this has been deployed in the city center due to the level of saturation in the parking zone. During the entire deployment of the communications infrastructure, we were supported by one of your technicians to define the details of it. Your engineers were also with us for the plans and then we nuanced and precised all the location of these points.

The system has been working well and the panels are giving the corresponding information. I could also say that we have spoken with the regulated area parking operator and we have been told that they have already started to see positive results because they have detected that areas that were previously empty are now getting more rotation.

How Was Your Experience of Urbiotica’s Technical Support Throughout the Process?

The technical support you have given us in this and all previous installations has been excellent.  They have always been willing to help us. It’s very nice to have remote support to lend a hand when you’re in the field with a problem.  In moments when problems arose, they helped us to solve them in an agile way. We are very satisfied.

Tell us about the final client, EYSA and the City Council of Aranda. Are they satisfied with the solution deployed? What are the improvements or benefits of this system for them and the citizens?

The city council is delighted with the system and satisfied because it represents a technological deployment that positions Aranda as a pioneering Smart City in its area.

For EYSA the deployment of the system is also positive. The parking operator confirms that they have seen improvements and the parking areas are being used much more. With this project, they see an increase in the use of the regulated area and therefore notice an improvement in the results and an economic benefit of the operation.

Right now, citizens are in the adaptation phase. They are becoming familiar with the tools that are provided to find parking more quickly. In towns like Aranda, citizens have their customs and have to adapt little by little to the changes as they see the benefit of using it.

Variable Message Sign in Aranda de Duero.

Finally, could you give us your general valuation of the relationship and the attention you received from Urbiotica?

It’s fine in every way. We don’t have any complaints, on the contrary, we like it and we are happy to be able to collaborate with companies like Urbiotica. I insist that it is important to have all the support. Especially in the moments of deployment when you are in the field working on the installation.
