Deploy a more reliable and affordable intercity traffic monitoring solution compared to current installations  

The Servei Català del Transit (Catalan Traffic Service) wanted to find an alternative technology to extend traffic monitoring on the C-60 road. The inductive loop solution that it had been deploying had a very high installation and maintenance cost and became less reliable over time.

Our project sought to deploy an alternative traffic monitoring solution that would be more reliable than the one they had been using, with far more affordable installation and maintenance and fully integrable with their traffic management system.

Our proposal involved the installation of wireless sensors on the road, providing real-time information with a far more affordable operating cost. It enables more efficient mobility management and the definition of mobility structure and maintenance plans on roads based on more reliable information over time.

8 traffic sensors

The project consisted of the deployment of 8 U-Flow sensors on the C-60 road, 2 pairs in each direction of the traffic towards Granollers and Mataró, where the Papers Boca Norte tunnel is located.

The sensors provide real-time information on the roads status, the volume of vehicles and their classification by type and traffic speeds. They detect up to 60,000 vehicles a day with a counting reliability of more than 99% and vehicle classification reliability of over 95%.

Economic efficiency. Simple autonomy and maintenance

The installation was quick, simple and with hardly any building work necessary, resulting in major savings compared to the inductive loops installed. No maintenance is needed thanks to the autonomy of the sensors.

Easy integration and interoperability

The solution is easily integrated with all current ITS systems, complementing the traffic information that they provide and making it possible to reuse and take advantage of the investments made at the time in these systems.

End-to-end service

In the project developed in the C-60 road, we based our proposal on solutions that meet both the needs of administrations and citizens.

We developed an end-to-end system that provides a complete service:
