Project description Outdoor parking guidance solution at Calvià, Mallorca (España)
Decrease in the number of vehicles circulating in access to beach and leisure areas in search of parking space
Calvià is a major touristic destination in the south-west of Mallorca island and the city organizing the “Smart island Congress” since 2017. It receives more than 1 million visitors every year.
End-to-end service
In order to improve the mobility, mainly composed of personal cars, Calvià city council together with the integrator company Telefonica have chosen Urbiotica’s urban parking guidance system to help drivers to quickly find a place to park within the facilities proposed by the city. Three parking areas have been equipped with wireless single space detection sensors U-Spot to determine in real time the parking spot availability: Polideportivo and Jaume I in the area of Santa Ponça and Peguera close to the Palmira beach.
Several variable message signs have been installed in the key points of decision making for drivers to achieve free flowing traffic when people concentrate in the beach and leisure areas.
The system drastically reduces the number of cars going round in circles and alleviate the circulation in these areas.
Details of the system installed:
- Single space detection sensors U-Spot
- Variable message sign ITINERE
- User guidance mobile application
- The U-Admin Parking Control Center for the daily management of the system
